Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva’s 123rd Birthday
Times of conflict breed some of history’s strongest voices.
Born of the Russian Revolution, Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva’s poetry told
vibrant stories etched with stirring emotions.
The expressive lyrical
style of her poems, prose, and folkloric narratives spans ten
collections.
Beloved across the world, her work influenced generations
of twentieth century poets.
Doodler Kevin Laughlin started today’s Doodle with concepts based on
“Here is a window anon,” one of Marina’s most recognizable poems.
The Doodle evolved to become more focused on Marina’s portrait, blending her into the imagery of her poem.
Eventually, we decided to simplify the concept and focus on Marina herself.
For the final Doodle, Kevin worked with Googlers and a Russian museum
to refine the portrait and get all of the little details right, from
the shape of her nose to the silver rings she never took off.
