Lithuania Independence Day 2016
Happy Independence day, Lithuania!
Today's Doodle marks the 98th year of Lithuanian Independence,
established by the "The Act of February 16" in 1918. To commemorate this
day, the Google team in Lithuania brainstormed ideas for a doodle
representing a grand and iconic structure to symbolize the rich heritage
of the country.
It was put to a vote, with the team resolutely in favor of a painting of Gediminas tower by Doodler Alyssa Winans. Gediminas was a Grand Duke, responsible for building the capital city of Vilnius, known for its beautiful architecture.
